Geometric patterns are deeply connected to nature, as they reflect the underlying harmony found in the natural world. From the spirals of shells to the symmetry of flowers and the crystalline forms of snowflakes, geometry reveals the universal language of creation. In Islamic architecture, these patterns became a profound way to express spirituality. Since figurative representation was often avoided, artists turned to geometry as a means to symbolize infinity, unity, and the order of the cosmos.
Through a small lecture, we’ll trace the journey of how the cosmos and natural world were abstracted through geography and in the end, we’ll create our own star based pattern! This workshop requires either a pencil and paper, or your computer. If you choose the paper route, a compass is also necessary to bring. An example of what the students will learn:
Small lecture and workshop is in English.
