Kaiku combines surplus glass from the glassblowing process with charred pine to create a composition in which light, material, and form engage in a dialogue with the architecture of the space.
The work explores how space influences a person’s physical experience and how art can strengthen a person’s relationship with the surrounding space. KAIKU aims to give the viewer an opportunity to pause and observe the space, materials, and light with greater awareness. The central source of inspiration for the work has been the glass elements around which the entire installation is built.
At the same time, the work highlights the possibilities of sustainable design by giving a by-product material a new purpose and meaning. The delicate, precious qualities of the glass and charred pine combine with light to create a sensory and atmospheric whole within the space, where the mark of craftsmanship is strongly evident.
